Top 5 Dating Apps for Valentine’s Day

1. Tinder:

Tinder is at this point, one of the most well-known and most socially accepted dating apps out there. However, it is also one of the most superficial since users decide who to match with based on their profile picture, often times not even checking the users about me or mutual interests.

The app uses geolocation technology and allows users to set their radius, their age range preference, and preferred gender(s). Peoples’ profiles display your mutual Facebook likes and friends; making it a bit more trustworthy than other dating apps as it’s much more time-consuming to create a fake profile.

Swiping right means you like the person, and swiping left means you don’t. They’ll never know if you swiped left, and if you both swipe right, you are greeted with a screen that says “it’s a match!”

2. OkCupid:

OkCupid is one of the most successful long-standing dating websites, launched on March 5, 2004. This is an extremely personal dating app, requiring an extensive profile which includes an about me, physical details, what you’re looking for, and best of all questions. You answer the questions and then choose which answers are acceptable in your partner. The questions lead you to people who are more likely to be your type or who are looking for the same thing as you.

OkCupid then shows you your matches on a percentage scale, with 100% being the highest. From there you can chat with them on OkCupid’s instant messenger, and fall in love (maybe).

3. Tastebuds:

This dating app is unique in that it matches you with other people who enjoy the same music; and what’s love without songs?

The first step is adding artists that you like onto your profile. You can add as many artists as you want, which broadens your horizon of choices. You then add a picture of yourself, because looks DO matter (at least a little). Once you complete the preliminary steps, you are then greeted with your matches.

4. Plenty of Fish (POF):

POF is very similar to previously mentioned OkCupid. There are questionnaires (Chemistry Test) and actually length requirements on the about me so that people don’t quickly make profiles without putting genuine thought into them.

You are also able to use a chat portion of the app which allows you to speak with matches, and further your relationship with people.

5. Skout:

Similar to Tinder, Skout also uses location-based technology and was one of the first dating apps to do so. Profiles aren’t extremely intricate, but are detailed enough for users to know a bit about who they’re talking to.

They also offer an in-app chat so that you could quickly speak with those you desire to. Additionally, they have a neat feature called “Shake to Chat” which connects you with other people around the world who are also shaking their phone at that precise moment.
